I think food is interesting because it is something everyone can relate to. Food is both culturally dependent as well as universal. I paint scenarios regarding the preparation, consumption and disposal of food. Placed in a remembered, contemporary context (be it a closet sized bedroom, an empty subway train or the corner of 7th and 43rd), food functions as a symbol.
I like it when my paintings are larger than life, but they don't have to be. I paint in the abstract. I like bright colors and smooth, artificial finishes that sit on top of fields of color. I am amused by fad and artificial foods in the same way that I am by the cultural phenomenon of competition based reality TV. I like to eat cake in the bath.
