I like it when my paintings are larger than life, but they don't have to be. I paint in the abstract. I pull from traditional still lifes and portraits to provide access to the painting; recognizable and traditional subjects that guide the eye into an abstract space. It is important to me that everyone can look at my paintings. I like bright colors and smooth, artificial finishes that sit on top of fields of color. I am amused by fad and artificial foods in the same way that I am by the cultural phenomenon of competition based reality TV. I think food is interesting for the same reason that I find people interesting, I paint about community and culture. I like to eat cake in the bath.
